Thursday

Hi
As promised, today we traveled from Blue Lagoon Christian camp to Devonport. We visited  Hobart city for a short non-stopping tour first. Then it was up to the historic village of Ross where some students enjoyed a little retail therapy. We stopped at Cataract Gorge in Launceston for lunch and walked down the gorge afterwards. Then it was on to Ashgrove Dairy Farm near Latrobe where a little more retail therapy was had. After Dinner at "The Argosy" we boarded the ferry and are all safely ensconsed and looking forward to another night of "rock and roll", though as not quite as intense as last time! We plan to be back at school around 3PM tomorrow and are looking forward to seeing you all. Things are still going well and though everyone seems a little tired they all seem very happy.

Was supposed to be Mt Wellington, but Boney won today! (Ask Mrs Moore).

Wednesday

Today we set off for a day at Port Arthur. After an early breakfast at Blue Lagoon we were on the bus and travelling to out cruise appointment at 9:30AM. The cruise took as all the way from Port Arthur, up the eastern side of the Tasman peninsula to Eaglehawk neck. On the way we viewed some of the most magnificent coastal scenery in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as some wild life such as dolphins and Albatrosses. We returned to Port Arthur for lunch and then undertook a sometimes sober tour and exploration of the convict ruins. Some of the stories from Port Arthur are quite poignant and brought alive some of the tragedy that underpins the existence of modern Australia. After exploring the site we returned to Blue Lagoon for dinner and an early night. We have a big day tomorrow, travelling back to Devonport and our second appointment with Bass Straight. 2 more sleeps till we get back!

Tuesday

Hi
We traveled from Poatina to The Blue Lagoon Christian Camp and Conference Centre today. Blue Lagoon is about 20 Ks east of Hobart and on the way to Port Arthur. Along the way we stopped at the Bonorong Wildlife centre at Brighton which has a fine collection of Australian native animals including Tassie Devils, Wombats, Bettongs, Kangaroos, Cape Barren Geese etc. Then it was on to Richmond for a pre-ordered lunch of pies. After lunch we had a look at Old Hobart Town which is an exact scaled model of Hobart in the early 1800s. Then we wandered around the rest of Richmond for a while, inspecting Australia's oldest bridge and Catholic church. We arrived at Blue Lagoon at about 4:30 PM and spent the rest of the afternoon playing Basketball, Pool and Table Tennis, before enjoying a meal at 6PM. Tomorrow will be a highlight as we travel to Port Arthur for a tour, and do a boat trip up the Eastern side of the Tasman peninsula. I must say that I have been really impressed with the behaviour of all of the students so far. They did an excellent job of cleaning up this morning at Poatina, and we have had no major issues at all. I hate to say it Mr Gilmour, but they have been even better than last years group (touch wood!). Everyone we have met along the way has been impressed with them, as a group of Year 9 students (and I don't give out bouquets easily, as Year 9 well knows!)
